About Me
Hi, I’m Kandi!
I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with my husband Scott and our fur babies. I am a mother to an adult daughter and stepmom to a high school senior. My greatest joy is being Mimi to my grandson Jaxon.
Helping people take the stress out of managing money, setting goals, and achieving those goals is my passion. I truly believe the best way to have a fulfilling life is to help others.
As a single mom at the age of 19, I needed to learn very quickly how to make something out of very little financially. I knew that I wanted to give my daughter the best life possible. Of course, I didn't know how it would all work out; I just believed that if I worked hard and did my best that everything would be ok.
In my early 20s, I began a career in the optical field. At this point in my life, we didn't have much, but I had no debt and learned many valuable skills managing my money. A very good friend and coworker of mine confided in me that she was struggling.
My friend made a decent living but didn't know where her money was going at the end of the month. She felt like she couldn't get ahead, had nothing to show for her work, and was completely stressed out. Eventually, she STOPPED paying her bills.
I immediately offered to help and showed up at her apartment where she proceeded to hand me a bursting shoe box (held together with a rubber band) full of all of her unopened bills and expenses. We talked about her goals, which included her desires to get out of debt, save some money, and eventually buy her first home. We came up with a plan and worked together for months executing that plan.
Within a short period of time, the majority of my friend’s debt was gone. Her credit was on the rise, and she had an emergency fund for the first time. The skills she learned during our time working together empowered her to pay off debt, purchase a home, and eventually own investment property. Most importantly, my friend has remained out of debt. Ever since, my friend has shared many times over the years that facing her fears around money was a huge turning point in her life.
This was also a pivotal moment in my life as I realized that I could really make a difference in someone else’s life.
Heading down this path as a financial coach has brought me so much joy. I feel like I’m on top of the world.
